Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally…..(Week 6)

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children’s lives, providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The UNICEF focus is to build a world where the rights of every child are realized. (UNICEF, n.d.).
Rationale: The UNICEF appealed to me because it focuses on assuring equality for children. For instance promoting girls’ education, the UNICEF ensures they complete their primary education as a minimum. For girls and boys to complete their education, they grow up to be cognitively prepared adults. Also, the UNICEF focus on healthy development of children. For example, the UNICEF along with partners provide mothers and children with quality health care.  Through providing resources, the UNICEF are fighting illness and saving lives.  The UNICEF ultimate goal is to make a positive impact on the children.

International Step by Step Association promotes equal access to quality education and care for all children (ISSA, n.d.). The ISSA is an organization that supports professionals working in the early childhood field with resources, training opportunities, and technical assistance.

Rationale: This association appealed because it focus on access to quality education for ALL children. Since quality is so essential, access to these programs is critical. I would like to add this association to my COP because it relates to my issue in my community. The ISSA will be able to provide the COP members with their perceptive on quality. For instance, the ISSA has developed Principles of Quality Pedagogy. The ISSA Principles may lead to a solution to the issue.

  2. Andrea,
Thank you for sharing. I also chose UNICEF. I love the fact that the organization feels strongly on acting now on child preventable deaths. Community Fundraising Coordinator sounds like a great job to have if you’re into raising money. With this job I believe it is also important to be creative so the organization is not doing the same boring fundraisers. Do you have experience in this area?

  3. Hi Andrea,
The information you provided on each organization you chose gave a great image of what they each strive to accomplish. I am also very interested in what UNICEF has been able to do in communities worldwide and the vast areas of caring for children and people they have supported. I think you're very right in saying that quality education for children is certainly not available everywhere for all children, and Save the Children seems to reach out to educators, families with children, and communities to provide training and learning tools for improving quality education opportunities. I also think your position for a Fundraising Coordinator opens the doors for educators to work in the field in a different way.
    Thank you for sharing!

  4. Hi Andrea,

WOW!! This is an informative post!! The Save the Children organization really tries to reach underserved children. I also found Save the Children to be a proactive organization which develops programs to meet the needs of children and families. The Early Steps Coordinator interests me because it provides families with in-home support to prepare children for school and increase their exposure to various forms of literature. Imagine what would happen if every young child and his family had a person help them at home! I would love to see that happen!
